Thanks to the efforts of a specialist US agency focussed on recovering of war dead and the cooperation of the French military the remains of the three New Zealand aircrew have now been identified. Their remains were reburied and honoured by living relatives in the New Zealand Military Cemetery at Bourail, New Caledonia on 17 December 2008.
The three aircrew - from No.31 Squadron, were shot down in the vicinity of Rabaul in 1944 were FLTLT Charles Gordon Gladstone Prior; FGOFF Rodney Ernest Clayton and, W/O Theo Raymond Scarlett.
