Flight Sergeant Kathleen Nikau with an ADF Blackhawk. She was awarded a Commendation for Outstanding Achievement. (WN09-0026-03)
20 February 2009
Flight Sergeant Kathleen Nikau, one of two Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) Aviation Refuellers assigned to the Australian Defence Force's Timor-Leste Aviation Group, has been awarded a Joint Task Force 631 Commendation for Outstanding Achievement.
The certificate was awarded to her on 15 February 2009 by the Commander of the International Stabilisation Force, Brigadier W.T.B. 'Bill' Sowry.
This is the second award to be made to a member of the sixth New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) rotation to Timor-Leste, an achievement in itself due to the limited number of commendations awarded.
Flight Sergeant Nikau's professionalism and enthusiasm in consistently striving to improve the safety and management of the Timor-Leste Aviation Group's aircraft support capability, as well as her work to assure the safety of her comrades and the continued delivery of aircraft capability to the International Stabilisation Force was a key factor in the presentation of the award.
