Air Force Orion put to test by Combined Naval Force
13 March 2009
A Royal New Zealand Air Force P3-K Orion and crew have been involved in some challenging training as part of the Fleet Concentration Period (EAST), a combined maritime training exercise off the East Coast of Australia.
The exercise, which is set to continue until 14 March, involves naval and air elements of the New Zealand Defence Force and all three services of the Australian Defence Force.
“The exercise gives the RNZAF an opportunity for aircrew to hone their skills in maritime warfare, both surface and sub-surface and working with a large combined naval force.
“By demonstrating our ability to deploy overseas and operate alongside our Australian counterparts, the exercise enhances international and defence relations with our closest neighbour,” said Detachment Commander, Flight Lieutenant Marcus Hogan.
