ARRIVAL OF HMNZS CANTERBURY & MAYORAL VISIT
HMNZS CANTERBURY, the Navy’s Multi-role vessel, will be arriving Lyttelton Harbour fully laden with vehicles and supplies to help in the earthquake relief effort at 1800 hours.
Once tied up from 1830hrs until 1900hrs she and her cargo will be available for inspection by media ahead of the visit by His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch Bob Parker at 1900 hrs.
He will be met by Rear Admiral Tony Parr, Chief of Navy and the Commanding Officers of HMNZS CANTERBURY, OTAGO and PUKAKI.
From 1920 until 1940hrs he will be given a tour of the vehicle deck where the supplies are being carried and at 1945hrs all hands will be piped and the crews of all three of the Navy ships in port will gather on CANTERBURY’S flight deck to meet His Worship.
On completion of this activity, equipment needed by Telecom will be craned off the flight deck to the shore.
Further equipment will be unloaded just after midnight to coincide with the Port’s tide.
