RNZAF University students arrive in style to start their academic school year. (OH 09-0106-01)

Travel to university took on a whole new meaning for five Royal New Zealand Air Force officers as they flew into Massey University aboard an Air Force Iroquois helicopter. The arrival signified the launch of the academic year and the start of new RNZAF University Officer Scholarship programme.
Flying Officer Megan Hodges, a recent re-enlistment into the Air Force said, “I was attracted to the Air Force lifestyle and the opportunity to continue my studies, play sport and do something that was meaningful and challenging.”
The scholarship provides for study fees, accommodation at RNZAF Base Ohakea in addition to employment outside of the academic year. 20 students annually are accepted onto the scholarship and are enrolled in a wide range of courses.
The Air Force personnel were welcomed by Vice-Chancellor Steve Maharey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Warrington and Centre for Defence Studies Director, Professor Glyn Harper.

The students are all part of the RNZAF University Officer Scholarship programme which is designed to progressively develop junior officers through a system of academic study and military training. This programme will assist them meet the demands of the RNZAF now and into the future.
