RNZAF C130 Hercules conducting airdrop over Northland
Over the past week, members of Number 40 Squadron RNZAF have been low flying on tactical flying sorties around the upper North Island as part of TACEX 2013.
TACEX is an annual exercise which trains pilots and crews to qualify on load drops, low level flying, tactical approaches, take offs and landings.
The exercise is a joint operation between the Royal New Zealand Air Force and NZ Army involving aircrew, maintenance technicians, and Army load and parachute riggers.
TACEX 2013 has seen aircraft fly tactical low level flights down to 250ft above ground level while dropping loads ranging from heavy equipment down to light equipment.
Held around different parts of the country, this year’s exercise is concentrated around the top of the North Island.
