Air Force on show at Omaka Air Show
04 April 2013
The RNZAF was on show at the Classic Fighters Air Show at Omaka, Blenheim, over the Easter weekend 29 – 31 March. The Airshow attracted over 30,000 people during the three days.
The NH90, the Air Force’s newest helicopter, gave its first full display away from its home base at Ohakea and proved to be very popular with the crowd.
The NZDF was well represented at the Air Show with a contingent of tri-Service personnel as well as the RNZAF contingent supporting our display aircraft including: NH90, A109, Boeing 757, Seasprite, Iroquois, and the Red Checkers formation aerobatic display team. As well, the Kiwi Blue parachute display team jumped during the Air Show.
There was an impressive tented camp area showcasing NZDF ground displays, the Armed Forces Canteen service (with plenty of retail souvenirs) and Defence Careers—complete with their recruiting bus. The ground displays provide an excellent opportunity for the public to talk to our service men and women about the work that they do in both here in New Zealand and around the world.
The air displays provide the opportunity to showcase the professional and skill of the RNZAF and are always a crowd pleaser.
The NZDF has supported the Omaka show for some years now. The Air Force has a proud tradition of service overseas and in New Zealand; at Classic Fighters Airshow the RNZAF was proud to demonstrate its skills and capabilities to the public.
