Within the structure of No.3 Squadron at Ohakea is the Helicopter Conversion Flight. It is responsible for:
- Training pilots who have completed the Wings Course in the art of helicopter (Rotary Wing) flying.
- Providing conversion courses for pilots moving onto the Iroquois after Rotary Wing courses.
- Conversion training for qualified pilots moving to the helicopter role.
- Training of personnel taking up the position of Helicopter Crewman or Air Gunner on the Iroquois.
To provide the range of training the flight carries out:

The Qualified Flying Instructors in the flight also carry out the audit checks of No.3 Squadron to ensure flying standards are being maintained.
The Flight has five Sioux helicopters for Rotary Wing conversion flying, and Iroquois are drawn from the Squadron's fleet as required for the other courses.
In January 2002 the Sioux and Iroquois Flights relocated to RNZAF Base Ohakea.
