Detachment Commander Squadron Leader Ben Pryor speaking:
“3 Squadron’s had two helicopters deployed to East Timor as part of Task Group Manu, which is in support of the International Stabilisation Force in East Timor. Our primary role here has been supporting the International Stabilisation Force, and along with that providing aero-medical evacuation coverage.
“In the 18 months that 3 Squadron’s been in East Timor we’ve assisted with 31 aero-medical evacuations. That’s been for a combination of Australian Defence Force personnel, United Nations and East Timorese civilians who in a variety of incidents have been injured.
“The Iroquois has maintained 24/7 standby so within 30 minutes of getting the notice that somebody’s been injured one of our aircraft would be airborne at any time of day or night.”
