Nominated for his heightened sense of responsibility and voluntary involvement in the community, the Trophy recognises SGT Baird’s selfless actions for others within both his Unit and in the community,

SGT Baird’s citation noted that, “During his service he has always been eager to participate in all activities and volunteers for any community service the Unit is involved in.

“SGT Baird is an effective leader and instructor and is also a member of the St Kilda Surf Lifesaving Club. He also assists the Logan Park High School Drama group with backstage work and lighting for all school productions.

“SGT Baird has a caring disposition towards others, evidenced by his willingness to assist younger cadets to achieve their goals."

Director of Reserves and Cadet Forces, Brigadier Sean Trengrove, presented the Trophy to SGT Baird, late last year. The Award reflects the ethos of the New Zealand Cadet Forces and the training they provide.

The Trophy is in memory of the late Marcus Anderson, a former President of the Otago Officers’ Club, and is to be awarded annually to a Dunedin cadet.
