RNZAF SPOTY Awards 2009

The 2009 Royal New Zealand Air Force Sportsperson of the Year Awards (SPOTY) were held at a ceremony in Defence Headquarters, Wellington on 26 February 2010.

Winners in the eight award categories were:

The RNZAF Cup

Awarded to the Base whose overall performance throughout the year’s Interbase competition best promoted the objectives of RNZAF sport.

  • Winner: RNZAF Base Auckland

The USAF Cup

Awarded to the Base that gained the highest aggregate of points throughout the year’s Interbase competition.

  • Winner: RNZAF Base Auckland

RNZAF Sports Team of the Year

Awarded for sporting excellence and achievement by an RNZAF sports team.

  • Winner: RNZAF Men’s Cricket

The RNZAF 141 Flight Trophy

Awarded for the most outstanding achievement in sport by an RNZAF sportsperson.

  • Winner: SGT Greg O’Connor

The Flag Trophy

Awarded to the RNZAF Administrator of the Year to recognise outstanding effort by non-playing sports officials.

  • Winner: CPL Andrea McNabb

The Nikki Carr Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the RNZAF Under 23 Sports Person of the Year for making the most outstanding contribution to sport during the year.

  • Winner: CPL Scott Robinson

The Les Smith Memorial Trophy

Awarded to the RNZAF Sports Person of the Year for making the most outstanding contribution to sport during the year.

  • Winner: WGCDR Kelvin Read

RNZAF Gold Sports Badge

Awarded for consistent, outstanding sporting achievement and long-standing service to RNZAF Sport.
