Ron's medals

Ron Hermanns, a 98-year old former Royal New Zealand Air Force Sergeant and veteran of the Pacific theatre during World War II, was recently presented with his medals by Air Commodore Gavin Howse in a low key ceremony at the Museum.

Along with some of his wartime colleagues, Ron had decided that he would not accept his medals as a protest because they were not engraved with his name. However his Christchurch neighbour, Joy Monteath, decided that after 65 years it was time that Ron received them, and took on the job of organising their issue.

Ron said he will be proudly wearing his medals at Anzac Day this year.
