The Perfect Proposal
When Corporal Dan Hurndell proposed to CPL Corrine Almedia, it was no ordinary affair. CPL Almedia recounts the special day…
Winched in
Friday 21 of May started off as a normal work day, and I was stoked to be part of a winching flight. What I didn’t know was that this was not going to be an ordinary winch exercise.
We began with a few drop-offs and pick-ups in the forest, but then the crewman explained he needed more practice and needed me to do one last winch on the airfield.
So there I was hanging out of a helicopter by a cable, I noticed a huge white area. As we got closer I recognised two figures in the distance, one a man and the other a uniformed person, who I later learned was an air force photographer. On the white area was a sign that read ‘WILL YOU MARRY ME?’
It felt like forever before the chopper set me down beside Dan, who got down on one knee and out of the little box from his pocket revealed the most perfect ring. I still had my bulky helmet on so all I remember doing was nodding my head vigorously and slipping off my glove. It was the perfect proposal!
A big thank-you to all those who helped Dan’s plan come together and make a very, very special memory for both of us.
