Logistics Command (Air) is made up of two existing units; Materiel Support Wing, Maintenance Wing; and a new Business Support Unit that has been formed out of the previous Directorate of Aeronautical Supply. The Business Support Unit will employ approximately eight people and be responsible for supporting the two functional Wings with business improvement and change management.

The formation of the DLC on 1 July was just the starting point in moving to a Tri-Service Logistics environment and driving business efficiency improvement through better use of resources. While each of the three Services will retain their own personnel delivering logistics, there will be an ongoing drive for increasing efficiency and effectiveness while ensuring continued support of single Service capability.

GPCAPT Sid Collins was recently promoted to the newly formed role of Logistics Commander (Air). GPCAPT Collins will work with the other commands within the DLC to bring about business improvement while ensuring the RNZAF Force Elements receive the optimal level of support.

GPCAPT Collins said "It is undoubtedly going to be a challenge to drive better efficiency and effectiveness in our already busy organisation, but this is what the New Zealand public and the Government require of us, and therefore we will deliver".

Chief of Air Force, AVM Graham Lintott said he is delighted to have someone of Sid’s calibre in this pivotal role for the Air Force. "Sid has demonstrated the leadership qualities that are necessary for this role - and will balance the Air Forc’s needs with those of the wider Defence Force". CAF, AVM Lintott said leadership is what we look for in all our Air Force people, regardless of their rank in our organisation, and we will continue to reward such qualities.
