WGCDR Paul Michael NEVIN X89744 WORKS (served 05 February 1980 to 31 August 2008).

WGCDR Paul Nevin died on 31 August 2008 following a spirited fight with cancer. Paul retained his laconic wit until the very last and maintained a fierce pride in ‘his’ Air Force throughout 28 years of service. He spent time as the Base Works Officer at Wigram and Auckland before a succession of staff posts in Wellington culminated with his appointment as Director of Works (Air). Over recent years he was a senior and crucial member of the Project Takitini team, both in Wellington and at Ohakea.

Paul joined the Air Force well before the advent of Vision and Mission Statements and before the RNZAF had written down those values which we hold dear. Today the Air Force has a commitment to Professionalism, Integrity and Teamwork. While it seemed difficult to distil RNZAF values at the time, every one has been exemplified in this single and singular career. His legacy to the RNZAF is in the example he set, both in work ethic and in demonstrating the practical application of our values. Paul was farewelled by CAF and a large contingent from across the RNZAF at Old St Paul’s in Wellington on Friday 05 September.
