Supply Chain Management Squadron
Who are we and what do we do?
Supply Chain Management Squadron.
Spread out across all three Bases, under the umbrella of Materiel Support Wing (MSW), Supply Chain Management Squadron (SCMS) is responsible for managing the aeronautical repair and procurement demands of the RNZAF. Hidden away in the Base HQ building on Whenuapai, in the DAC building on Ohakea and Supply HQ in Woodbourne, SCMS is the often invisible force behind the front-line supply sections that you may deal with on a day-to-day basis.
Mirroring RNZAF structure, SCMS is divided into fleets, with each section responsible for a different aircraft platform. Comprising a combination of supply and technical staff, each position has responsibility for a very specific area – ranging from the management and procurement of all aeronautical consumable items to the control of all serialised items, including the management of the repair cycle from start to finish.
We work closely with Fleet Planning Unit and the Technical Support Units on each Base and liaise daily with external vendors (in New Zealand and overseas) and the various Defence Procurement Offices around the world to ensure targets are met and shelves are stocked. So the next time you pull an aeronautical component off the shelf, or see a RNZAF aircraft taxiing down the runway, take a moment to consider how many people were involved in the process that got it there. Chances are Supply Chain Management Squadron played a pretty significant part.
